Drought Tolerant Design: increasingly relevant to our Comox Valley

Drought Tolerant Design: increasingly relevant to our Comox Valley

April 4, 2019

Growing up on Vancouver Island my winters as a child were interminable – months of drizzly grey cold incessant rain, punctuated every so often with very vivid memories of heaping piles of white snow. Rain gear dominated our fashion items at school (my gumboots really were prettier) and I had seemingly endless mornings of trudging […]

You’ve just purchased a lovely home on a small acreage. The location is fabulous, your house is perfect with only a few tweaks, but your new garden… Well, the garden definitely needs a fresh vision and some direction on how to get there. Your new landscape also needs a connection to you – your lifestyle […]

Winter in the Beauforts

Winter in the Beauforts

January 7, 2019

There is nothing so vital and grounding to me as the turning of the seasons and shifting of the days from dark to light. I thrive on the little details erupting into being at each time of year and how they fade from one season to the next. At the moment I am reveling in […]

Landscape Designer, Horticultural Technician, Permaculture Designer

Born and raised in Victoria, BC, I am a member of a privileged few to call our stunning Vancouver Island home.

In 2006 I completed the Horticulture Technician Program at the Pacific Horticulture College in Victoria, B.C. Upon graduation I spent the following years working on landscape design, installation and maintenance as Gardens by Arianne. My family and I moved to the spectacularly lovely Comox Valley in 2014. In addition to traditional landscaping I have experience with annual and perennial vegetable growing and tree pruning. I have a keen interest in permaculture, and try to include edible, native and drought tolerant species in designs whenever possible. In 2014 I completed the Permaculture Design Course (PDC online) with Geoff Lawton.

I use landscape industry design software to create scale drawings and am proficient in Dynascape, SketchUp for 3D model images, and the collaborative use of online tools such as Pinterest and Houzz to maintain a high standard of communication with my clients.

Proud Member and Volunteer of the Comox Valley Horticultural Society .

Member of the Pacific Horticulture College Alumni.

“We were very satisfied with Arianne’s knowledge of design , plants and trees. We were thrilled with Arianne’s ability to turn our blank slate into a beautiful oasis. The design of our backyard is beautiful!”

“I highly recommend Arianne for your landscape design. She is very pleasant to deal with. She offers a wealth of design knowledge and brings forth a lot of fresh ideas. Good old fashion customer service.”

Gerry Cormons, Courtenay

“I would highly recommend you. I felt that you listened and understood what I wanted, and used your expertise to make my ideas and preferences work. Where we needed to make adjustments with varieties, you did so while staying in the framework we had worked on together. My finished garden is very impressive. Although I admit to being a little biased, our location means we get a lot of passersby and many compliments.”
